Eating fresh and healthy has become quite popular in the restaurant scene lately- with gluten free and vegetarian options popping up all over menus many restaurants can now accommodate for all types of customers. True Food Kitchen has created a health conscious reputation for their amazing culinary creations. Their motto, “honest food that tastes really good,” definitely holds true. They truly care about your health while striving to make every dish fresh, healthy, and packed with nutrients. It isn’t simple making tasteful, exquisite looking dishes that are truly good for your body, but True Food Kitchen has mastered the art!
True Food Kitchen is located in the Plaza at Preston Center in Dallas, Texas. The exterior has a modern look with huge glass windows that allow for natural light to pour into the restaurant. There are also many rectangular troughs that hold home grown herbs that are labeled with copper plated signs. The modern glass walls lined with home grown herbs, and a rustic looking patio, lures customers in to see what this dining experience has to offer.
The restaurant interior reminds me of a rustic farm house with a modern twist. This rustic, farm house design gives off a southern vibe often associated with hearty, comfort food. By adding some modern style, such as unique lighting fixtures and concrete pillars, True Food Kitchen shows the public that this normal southern vibe might be moving in a different direction.
As I walked around I noticed chefs quickly chopping their freshly cooked chicken, and on the other side another chef was hard at work, rolling out dough for some tasty Edamame Dumplings. The kitchen is completely open for the customers’ eyes to see! This is where the word “True” in True Food Kitchen comes into play. Giving their guests the liberty to observe the cooking process of their meals allows customers to know just how honest this restaurant’s health promises are.
Once my Mom and I were seated, an enthusiastic waitress took our drink order and educated us about True Food Kitchen’s heart healthy motto. I personally was very excited to see that Blood & Honey Revolver was on the beer list. It’s my absolute favorite and seems to be quite popular with Texas locals as well! There is a Natural Refreshments section on the menu, I am sure you can guess how these 11 drinks are made! With all natural ingredients such as cucumber, honey, chia seeds, carrot juice, ginger, kale, coconut water, and green tea, these drinks are packed with vital nutrients that are body cleansing. My Mom constructed herself an Arnold Palmer out of their iced tea and honey lemonade which she found to be very refreshing. The cocktail list is very exciting- every drink is infused with natural flavors! You won’t find any syrupy, overly-sugared cocktails that are typically served at most bars. I have tried the Pomegranate Acai Mojito before and it was so light and refreshing, which is exactly what people crave on a hot summer day! If you are in the neighborhood and only have a small amount of time, I definitely recommend stopping for one of these cocktails!
For an appetizer, we ordered the Herbed Hummus, which came with fresh pita bread, tomatoes, onions, olives, and feta. This is the best tasting hummus around, you can taste all of the fresh herbs and the spices give it an exciting kick! The people sitting next to us ordered the Shitake & Tofu Lettuce Cups which looked so fresh and delicious! My Mom and I found it difficult to not stare at everyone’s food because it all looked so tasty and was presented beautifully!
After our appetizer, it was time for our lunch! True Food Kitchen is known for their kale and farm fresh vegetables so my Mom and I both ordered a salad. I went with the Kale Crunch and asked for some grilled salmon for a little protein, and my Mom got the Farmer’s Market salad. Both were literally amazing! The dressings were paired perfectly with the vegetables in each salad and their vibrant colors added to their impeccable presentation. My salmon was cooked to perfection and was a great addition to the salad!
Luckily we saved room for desert and decided to share the Flourless Chocolate Cake! It came in a small bowl with a perfect scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzled caramel, and cocoa nibs on top. It was so delicious I could have eaten way more, my Mom and I were practically licking our plates! The entire dining experience left us satisfied and very happy knowing that we splurged on healthy food! The whole atmosphere mixed with the amazing staff and awesome food makes True Food Kitchen a hot spot! I will definitely be back very soon!
