Lately I’ve been really into beer cocktails for a few reasons: they are light and refreshing, crisp and fizzy, easy to make, and they aren’t loaded with tons of sugar and hard alcohol like a margarita. This sweet cocktail hits the spot by incorporating summer strawberries and fresh basil to create a delightfully fizzy refreshment! Crabbie’s is my favorite brand of ginger beer, probably because it’s one of the only alcoholic ones I can ever find, and because it’s not as peppery as other ginger beers. If you want to make this drink without an alcoholic ginger beer, Fever-Tree is always a good substitute. This recipe serves 1!
-3 medium strawberries (or 4 small)
-6 basil leaves (+1 for garnish)
-1.5 oz. vodka
-1 Tbs fresh lime juice
-about 7 oz. Crabbie’s Ginger Beer
Place a drinking glass in the freezer ahead of time. In a blender, puree the strawberries, basil leaves, vodka, and lime juice. Pour this mixture over ice into the frosty drinking glass. Top with about 7 or 8 ounces of Crabbie’s Ginger Beer (which can be found at Central Market or Specs).
