Making pizza just got personal, and healthy! I love being able to make my own pizzas because I get to control the amount of ingredients that I want. The crispy flat crust, minimal cheese, and fresh toppings are what makes these pizzas so light.
-3/4 cup warm water, about 110 degree
-1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
-1 Tbsp. dry active yeat
-2 tsp. sugar
-1 tsp. coarse kosher salt
In a large bowl, combine and mix all ingredients. Cover with a dish towel and let rise for 2 hours. Punch the dough down after these 2 hours and knead a little. After the dough is ready you may use it immediately. I like to separate the dough into about 6 or 7 smaller dough balls, this makes them the perfect size for an individual pizza. You can freeze the remaining dough for later use. Roll out your dough to an even thickness, if you don’t have a rolling pin old wine bottles work perfectly! Take a fork and poke holes throughout the surface of the dough to avoid air bubbles during cooking. For crispier crust, preheat the oven to 450 degrees and place the pizza dough on a cookie sheet and place in oven for 2 minutes. Remove firmed crust from the oven and add toppings. Only after you have firmed the crust can you place your pizza with toppings directly on the oven rack. This way your toppings won’t slide off during cooking, and you will achieve a crispier crust.
Pesto Drizzled Pizza
-basil pesto sauce
-meat of your choice
-sun dried tomatoes (optional)
-cherry tomatoes, chopped
-red onion, chopped
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spread pizza sauce evenly over your pizza dough/crust. To add more flavor to the sauce I like to add minced garlic and dried basil and oregano. If you like spicy, red pepper flakes will add a little heat. Sprinkle a light layer of mozzarella cheese on your pizza. Take a spoonful of basil pesto sauce and use your finger to evenly dab it around the pizza. Add the rest of your topping. Place your pizza in the oven and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool a little before cutting. Enjoy!
BBQ Chicken Pizza
-BBQ sauce (use spicy BBQ sauce if you want a little kick!)
-red onion, chopped
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spread BBQ sauce evenly over dough/crust. Sprinkle a light layer of mozzarella cheese and add your chopped red onions and grilled chicken. Place in oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool a little before cutting. Enjoy!
