As we all know last week was Valentine’s week, and if your like me, then you ate your weight in chocolate, wine, and other rich foods! It’s time for a serious detox. Fresh fruits and veggies are the best way to do a cleanse. Sometimes these foods can be boring on their own, so I always like to make smoothies that incorporate both. This smoothie recipe is super healthy and packed with natural antioxidants and is loaded with beneficial nutrients! The ingredients in the smoothie create a meal that is very low calorie, cholesterol and fat free, loaded with potassium and hydrating powers, and is high in fiber, iron, calcium, and vitamin K, A, and C. This smoothie is great for your mind, body, and soul! This snack size recipe serves 1!
-1/2 large banana
-1/2 cup coconut water
-1 cup of kale (packed)
-1/2 cup frozen blueberries
-4 or 5 medium sized frozen strawberries
-optional ingredients: chia seeds, mulberry seeds, protein powder, or low-fat granola
In a blender combine banana, coconut water, and kale. Puree mixture, then add protein powder if desired. Then add frozen blueberries and frozen strawberries and blend until consistency is even, thick, and smooth. I found that the blender is less likely to jam or get stuck if you add a few ingredients at a time and then blend. Serve in a glass and top with chia seeds, mulberry seeds, or low-fat granola if desired! Enjoy!
